![]() ![]() I know that we used to have some Forum users still using 4990 scanners. ![]() In any event, I take heart that Epson seems to be. Given that I like the Image Capture interface, I assume that Epson's 'ICA Scanner Driver v5.8.7 for Apple's Image Capture utility' will need another update, but I am not sure. So, on select models, we updated the driver to Epson Scan 2, which is 64-bit. Epson's 'Perfection V600 Photo Scanner Driver' and 'Epson Scan 2 Utility v6.4.94' were updated for OS 11 on October 6. You can do that for free since VMWare Fusion Player is now free for non-commercial use. ![]() If you dont like the new macOS 64-bit version of Epson Scan (called Epson Scan 2), you can run the scanner using the older 32-bit Windows driver if you run Windows as a virtual machine. I could try Ken's approach, but I really didn't want to run a virtual Windows machine on my Mac just to use the scanner. Here's what Epson had to say about why Epson Scan 2 works with macOS: Apple's macOS 10.15 Catalina operating system requires 64-bit drivers. Re: Epson 4990 Scanner & Mac Catalina Driver. Do any of you digital gurus out there know how all this fits together? Will the 64-bit version of Photoshop Elements automatically use the new driver even if I have no working Epson Scan software any more? as Olly Dean said in a twitt shorturl.at/bdoX8 on the link below you have the correct link to download the Epson. For the ones who hadn't the updated epson scanning program it's literally a madness to find the correct download link in the epson website. But I was putting this off, because if it won't work with my scanner it is wasted money. IMPORTANT: Solution to epson scan software with Catalina update MAC OS. So current status: I have an out-of-date (32-bit) version Photoshop Elements, I know I need to buy the new 64-bit version. To scan negatives and get them into Photoshop Elements, the Epson tech rep said I would have to call either Adobe or Apple. There is no 64-bit Epson Scan or Epson Scan 2 software which will work with the old 4990 scanner. ![]() Having spoken with Epson, it seems that I did successfully download their "ICA Scanner Driver v5.8.9 for Image Capture" which (a) they say is Apple software, not Epson's, and (b) is in the Image Capture app even though it does not show a new update date. Worked fine for 1 day then scanner would shut down and I would get error code E583-B318. Is VueScan actually an alternative for this scanner in macOS 10.15, seeing the driver is not actually available in macOS 10.Afraid I'm back again. Epson V600 - Catalina 10.15.5 - after it worked for one day I now get communication error E583-B318 Installed a new scanner with the 64 bit app required by Catalina. The new Mac updated disables the new of the original Epson Scan. What would no longer be possible when using Image Capture in his workflow? I assume Image Capture can scan as 16 bit Tiff or similar meaning all adjustments could be done post-scanning? The main function I am concerned about is infrared dust removal: would this be possible at all using Image Capture in the workflow? 881 48K views 3 years ago Whats up guys Herewith a video on How to Scan film using the new Epson Scan 2. why the deep amber captured by your scanner may be rendered as chalky brown on your monitor yet come out as a fiery orange on your Epson inkjet printer. I would like to advise my father on his options, but need to understand the following: I have read about VueScan as an alternative, and the V500 is listed as compatible but I do wonder if that is the case for macOS 10.15 as well as the Vue Scan website refers to installing the Epson driver (which would not be possible in macOS10.15). If you upgrade to macOS 10.14 Mojave, macOS 10.15 Catalina, or macOS 11 Big Sur you’ll need to install the Epson Scan 2 driver below however, this updated Epson Scan 2 version does not include Digital ICE. My understanding is that, as of now, Epson only supplies a scanner driver that makes it compatible with Apple's Image Capture, not with the new Epson Scan 2. The new device comes with 10.15 Catalina and (sadly) his Epson Perfection V500 scanner is not fully supported. Operating systems: Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7 & Apple macOS 10.15 10.12 / Mac OS X.
